Overview

In the event of a disaster, the first and foremost person you should rely upon is yourself. Whatever disaster you experience, you are on the scene first. You are your own first responder. As such, you need to learn and prepare for that event NOW, before the event happens, so that you will have the knowledge and skills necessary to help yourself. Go to the Red Cross and sign up for a first aid class. Understand how to bandage and splint and help in a disaster. Keep those skills current by going back and refreshing them again once a year.
