Emergency Communications (emcomm) is at the heart of why the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) give Amateur Radio Operators bandwidth. The FCC recognized that with the average sprinkling of Ham operators nation wide, each providing and maintaining their own equipment, there would be the potential to stitch together a nation wide communications network should a natural disaster occur.
