Drop the decorum and your tailgates and blow off some steam. You are liable to find some supercharged conversations in the Red Cross parking lot after the regular Tuesday evening meetings. As the sun sets, and the evening breeze turns cool, regular club members linger in the lot after the weekly meeting, and pull no punches as the conversations heat up for some interesting discussions. Sometimes it revolves around equipment and performance. But mostly, the topics are generally club business, either procedural or to do with policy. Members openly challenge eachother as they debate the best course to take regarding a particular issue. And though the air seems tense and voices are raised, the over all affect is an astounding cleansing. Newly adopted or amended proceedures are born in the open, and not behind closed doors. Last night, I left this informal pow-wow with a phenomenal sense of accomplishment, even though I wasn't the center of conversation. I did however, put in my 2 cents. We ironed out personal matters and matters of personnel. We pointed and proclaimed...we listened and nodded our heads in agreement. And we often vehemently disagreed. And at the end of it all, subjects of contention were resolved, and great weights lifted. It was really quite fun. So before you decide to race home and catch the latest episode of your favorite reality show, hang out a bit. Drop your tailgate, and let us know what's on your mind.
